Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

Movie Review: A thick, dark smoke hangs over Oskar Schell's (Thomas Horn) young heart since his father Thomas ( Tom Hanks) died in the WTC attack. He bonded with his father and hates his mother. "I wish you were in the building instead of him," Oskar tells his mom. And he feels that the path to redemption could lie in a yellow key that one day he accidentally stumbles upon. The key was kept in an envelope in a blue vase and addressed to someone named Black. And the boy, both articulate and sensitive, makes it his mission to find its lock.

But in a city of over 400 listed Blacks, that's not easy. The movie takes Oskar to different people and places in the city: the Afro-American woman trapped in a bad marriage, the man who can't stop hugging him, the cranky woman who shoos him away. Midway in the endeavour, he makes friends with an old man who has stopped speaking by choice. It is an interesting relationship of unequals. Together they scan the city and the travels become a sort of therapy for both.

Killer Joe' distributor appeals NC-17 rating

The MPAA has issued a potentially fatal NC-17 rating for Killer Joe, EW has confirmed. The trailer park noir stars Matthew McConaughey as the titular police officer who moonlights as a hitman. When a Texas drug-dealer (Emile Hirsch) runs afoul of local kingpins, he hires Killer Joe to off his mother so he can collect her insurance money. If those colorful details weren’t eyebrow-raising enough, consider these — drug use, nudity (male and female), savage violence, and graphic sexual content. LD Entertainment, the film’s distributor, is planning to appeal the decision, though a rep for the company was unable to comment on the appeals process at this time.
Gina Gershon, Thomas Haden Church, and Juno Temple also star in Joe, which William Friedkin directed based on the same-name play by Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy Letts (August: Osage County). LD picked up the film at the Toronto Film Festival last September and it is projected to hit theaters this summer.

Travel on highway of love with ’London Paris New York’

Film: "London Paris New York"; Cast: Ali Zafar and Aditi Rao Hydari; Writer-Director: Anu Menon; Rating: ***

If only Siddharth Anand's "Anjaana Anjaani" was funnier, warmer, more kindered in spirit and less burdened by the responsibility of making the pair look at home on foreign shores, it could have conveyed the pleasure quotient of "London Paris New York" (LPN).

Indeed debutante writer-director Anu Menon imparts a talcum-freshness into a tale that has only two principal characters - He and She. And what happened to mama, papa, chacha, chachi?

Priyan, on the other hand, seldom, if ever, prepares a full script. Most of the time he likes to improvise and work out his scenes on the spot. This is not how Anil likes to work. He turned down every single offer from Priyan until 'Tezz'," said a close friend of Anil.
