Script plays villain between Anil, Priyadarshan

Mumbai: After "Viraasat", it took 15 years for Anil Kapoor to say yes to Priyadarshan's film "Tezz". It is unlikely that they will ever work together again as they do not approve of each other's working methods.

Priyadarshan likes to work without a script, while Anil does projects only when he is given a hard-bound script.

"To put it bluntly, Priyan and Anil do not see eye to eye. Anil is a studied actor who likes to come fully prepared to the sets. For this, he needs the script beforehand. Priyan, on the other hand, seldom, if ever, prepares a full script. Most of the time he likes to improvise and work out his scenes on the spot. This is not how Anil likes to work. He turned down every single offer from Priyan until 'Tezz'," said a close friend of Anil.

Designers save a few fashion surprises for Oscars

Bower sees more white, ivory and silver. At last month's Golden Globes, Angelina Joliet showed up in a white satin Versa dress with a slash of red for color, and it made a splash with fashions everywhere.

"It sort of shocked everybody into realzing that white can look so well on the red carpet if it's done right," said Bower.

Old Hollywood glamour has been showcased this season, but In Style Magazine's Hal Rubenstein said designs at Paris' couture shows in January and New York's recent Fashion Week could creep onto the carpet because they have not yet shown up elsewhere.

And the right dress can certainly make all the difference.

"A dress can make the celebrity, but the celebrity cannot make the dress," said fashion designer Allen B. Schwartz. "An ugly dress will be ugly on anyone. A gorgeous dress will make that actress look that much more exciting." The normally stylish Gwynne Paltry learned her lesson in 2002 in a embarrassingly sheer black Alexander McQueen gown. On the other side, risk taker Cate Blanchett will always be remembered for her 1999 Oscar Jean Paul Gaultier sheath dress whose back was embroidered with flowers and a hummingbird.

While Angelina Jolie has been flawless on the carpet all season, Rooney Mara has been turning heads, too, with an often dark look that seems fitting for her Oscar-nominated role as Lisbeth Salander in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." Bower is a fan of Mara, calling her "major fashion player" this season.

I didn’t kill Jackson, stress did: Conrad Murray

Los Angeles: Michael Jackson's personal doctor Conrad Murray has filed legal documents claiming that MJ was so stressed out over his financial woes that he recklessly self-administered a fatal dose of Propofol that killed him.

Murray is responding to the D.A.'s claims that he should stay in jail pending appeal because the grounds for challenging the conviction are bogus, reports tmz.com.

Ee Adutha Kaalathu

The much awaited movie by Arun Kumar Aravind is finally here. Though the movie "Ee Adutha Kaalathu" literally means 'in recent times' it took almost a year in making and will hit the screens Friday.

Director Arun Kumar, considered as a trend-setter in Malayalam film industry with his no-hero-no-villain directorial debut, Cocktail, is confident that his latest venture will also be well received.

A story with a slice-of-life theme, the movie travels through different genres and has a panorama of different emotions - it has suspense, thrill, action, horror, etc, which excites almost all human emotions. Distancing from the regular story-telling pattern, the movie has done away with all sorts of typecasts who are usually marked as a hero, a heroine or a villain.

So why did he take so long to come up with EAK? "My last film, Cocktail, was an adaptation from a Canadian movie. Though it was challenging for me to do and to churn it out well to the taste of Malayali audience, this time I wanted to come up with a fresh subject, which can stand out and speak for itself. So when Murali Gopi presented the one-liner it excited me to the core. We worked on shaping it out well and meticulously perfect. That took some time and I am satisfied with the way it has evolved.

What's so unique about EAK? "The Malayali society has undergone a sea-change over a short period of time. People are well-versed with all advancements that is taking place in the world. From nano car to Jaguar, from smart phones to space tourism, the general public here has now kept apace with all the changes around. So it's obviously incongruent that the entertainment sector, especially Malayalam cinema, be left lurching in the old rudimentary form. They would welcome any change in this field if art is not maligned. That's why I hope EAK will be accepted"

"We have seen so many movies which tell stories of a city, a town or a village, but this one is a tale that a city has to narrate," says Arun Kumar.

Produced by Raju Malliath, Ee Adutha Kaaathu is scripted by Murali Gopi, son of late actor Bharat Gopi. Gopi Sunder composed music for lyrics penned by Rafeeq Ahmed. Shehnad Jalal has wielded the camera and Arun Kumar is at the helm of the editing department.

The film casts Indrajith Sukumaran, Murali Gopi, Anoop Menon, Nishan and Mythili in prominent roles.

Jodi Breakers’ is fun all the way

Film: "Jodi Breakers"; Cast: R. Madhavan, Bipasha Basu, Dipannati Sharma, Milind Soman, Helen; Director: Ashwini Chowdhary; Rating: ***

Just when you think you've seen them all, from the hit jodis to the split jodis comes "Jodi Breakers…". A jodi-daar pair, Madhavan and Bipasha Basu set up a business of splitting couples…until they end up splitting the wrong couple.That's when all hell breaks loose.

Interestingly the wronged couple is played by two model-turned-actors Milind Soman and Dipannati Sharma who are a class act, together and apart.Dipannati specially, whom we saw some time ago in a chic avatar in "Ladies versus Ricky Behl", makes you wonder why some ladies get left behind in the rat race.

Or why any man would be stupid enough to leave a wife like Ms. Sharma. That's the thought which holds the shaky screenplay of "Jodi Breakers" together - that we often end up giving ourselves a wrong deal in the bid for love.

The concept of a pair falling in love as they go about breaking couples is interesting enough to hold a two-hour long rom-com together. Lamentably, the episodes showing a pile-up of desperately-estranged couples seeking to find an escape from marriage are hardly as amusing as one would expect them to be, given the situation.

At various places, the screenplay simply slithers to a standstill waiting for the writer's next brainwave. Until then, there's always the song break.The music is all of the safe variety, expansive ballads, a sexy item song…download-able waste.

Madhavan and Bipasha Basu's screen presence goes a long way in covering up the film's frail passages. They seem to vibe well together and bring a kind of shared empathy to the proceedings that seems to suggest there's much more going on here than meets the eye.Madhavan in two dramatic key sequences holds the camera like a lover. Rest is brat-boy-fun-time stuff.

This could have been the perfect rom-com about an imperfect couple trying to make money out of broken-down relationships. Sadly, director Ashwini Choudhary fails to go the whole hog. Somewhere down the line the characters stop thinking and begin shrinking. They go through motions that are written for them.

And not very convincing motions at that.

If the film works at all it's because Madhavan and Bipasha make a cute couple and try to extract the maximum enjoyment from their under-written smart-on-top-shaky-at-the-bottom characters. Besides them you really won't find too many side-splitting moments in this film about jodi-splittng.

The Artist’ shines at French film awards

Paris: Silent movie "The Artist" shone at home, netting best film and a string of other awards at France's annual Cesars, held two days before the Oscars in which the black-and-white film is a top favourite.

Michel Hazanavicius won both best film and best director for his tribute to Hollywood's golden age, about a silent movie star struggling after the arrival of the "talkies", at the 37th Cesars ceremony at the Chatelet Theatre in Paris.

Composed Upon Westminster Bridge - Poem by William Wordsworth

Composed Upon Westminster Bridge - Poem by William Wordsworth
Earth has not anything to show more fair:
Dull would he be of soul who could pass by
A sight so touching in its majesty:
This City now doth like a garment wear
The beauty of the morning; silent , bare,
Ships, towers, domes, theatres, and temples lie
Open unto the fields, and to the sky,
All bright and glittering in the smokeless air.
Never did the sun more beautifully steep
In his first splendour, valley, rock, or hill;
Ne'er saw I, never felt a calm so deep!
The river glideth at his own sweet will:
Dear God! the very houses seem asleep;
And all that mighty heart is lying still!

I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud - Poem by William Wordsworth

I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud - Poem by William Wordsworth
I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud by William Wordsworth
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

Summer - Poem by John Clare

Summer - Poem by John Clare
Summer by John Clare
Come we to the summer, to the summer we will come,
For the woods are full of bluebells and the hedges full of bloom,
And the crow is on the oak a-building of her nest,
And love is burning diamonds in my true lover's breast;
She sits beneath the whitethorn a-plaiting of her hair,
And I will to my true lover with a fond request repair;
I will look upon her face, I will in her beauty rest,
And lay my aching weariness upon her lovely breast.
